CONTESTANT CONFESSIONS
Competing in the first Miss Hawai'i Plus pageant helped me learn more about myself. I was able to see how beautiful I really was. My pageant sisters helped build me up with confidence and my family encouraged me to blossom as well. With the help of such great directors, I was able to succeed in my first pageant. I continue to hope that women like me will find confidence, relationships and success through this awesome pageant also! - Rainbow U. Miss Hawaii Plus 2018 [Miss North Shore Plus]
Competing in the first ever Miss Hawaii Plus 2018, I've gained so much independence just by loving my body. I loved how I was a walking billboard and that I can set a great example to all plus size women... Lawren M. Miss Aloha Tower Plus 2018
All my life I've felt inferior to my skinnier peers, so I've always tried to excel at everything that wasn't limited by my size. Up until the pageant one of my greatest accomplishments was having one of my scholarly papers be published in an encyclopedia, however successes like that never quite boosted my self esteem. I entered the pageant as a way to "reset" the way I saw myself; I wanted to feel as confident about my body as I did about my ability to perform academically. After winning first runner up against some of the most competitive, charismatic, and beautiful women, I walked away finally believing that I was beautiful. I'm extremely optimistic about the future success of body positivity and body diversity in our society and I'm especially inspired by the sisterhood of like-minded women who are on this journey to be positive change makers. Shayna V. Miss Honolulu Plus 2018
It has always been a dream of mine since I was younger to compete in a Beauty pageant. I never thought I would see myself compete in a pageant because all you ever see on social media is women who are very thin & fit. But competing in this pageant is showing everyone that everywhere they go body diversity is shown! We are all beautiful no matter what shape & size! Competing in Miss Hawaii Plus was absolutely amazing! All the practices, the walking, talking, the way we have to execute ourselves is such an amazing rush! What I have gained through all of this is that I️ have gained self confidence. A lot of it actually! Also I️ was taught how to walk in heels without feeling I’m going to fall on my face aha! What I️ loved the most about competing in the pageant is meeting some of the most beautiful, down to earth & loving girls! My pageant sisters! Sayde S. Miss Kapolei Plus 2018
